My mother came west from Memphis to try to get into the movies. She ended up in the accounting department of MGM being harassed by the Marx Brothers. My father was a native Californian who, even though he was blind, started a town called Earp, CA because he played cribbage with Wyatt Earp, who lived in the nearby hills. He also bought a three-masted schooner and did commercial shark fishing.
As for myself, I was born, raised, and mostly educated in Los Angeles during its period of explosive growth. Over time I developed a diverse set of skills well enough to be paid as a sommelier, flight instructor, truck driver, stock broker, encyclopedia salesman, COO of a medical clinic, radio announcer, business counselor, and fine art photographer. I have lived in New York City, Hawaii, Venice, CA, and Humboldt County, CA.
I’ve always written… something. That includes a newspaper column, articles for a literary journal, advertising copywriting, and educational films. I have two unpolished novels, a screenplay, poetry, and some short stories in my writer’s bin.
If I can’t be snorkeling off the Big Island, I am happiest engaging in my creative pursuits within sight of the redwood forest along the wild Northern California coast, where I now live with my wife, Nancy, and dog, Laika.
